Come explore a fun and exciting project we are currently finishing for summer… basically, SuMmEr house is what keeps popping into my head now seeing the back of our home. It is wild how transformative this project has been, yet seems like it has always been there.

The Jist
So basically the house changed by adding a deck with a screen porch. This all now connects to an existing primary bedroom on the main, what has so far been used as our playroom. Two doors were added to have access to the screen porch and a set of double doors in the living room were added to now access the deck.
Before
The original plans did not have an extended primary bedroom on main. It called for a “hearth room” that was more narrow and essentially an extension of the living room. We added a bathroom and wider bedroom so the footprint of the house was longer. This left the house feeling expansive on the right side.

Inspiration
Arches and stone are one of my most favorite combinations in design. Arches offer a unique design structure because they always feel really significant and supportive, stone is just significant in its weight and hearty feel. That is exactly what our house needed… Some stronger legs!
Underdeck System
We decided to dry in the underneath portion of the deck because we use the patio area under the deck all the time already. It was obviously limited to times with no rain however, so, this opens up a whole new area to be used despite weather conditions.
The deck starts just as a regular ole naked underneath (seen below). A metal roofing system in coordination with a gutter system is installed to collect the water falling from above and keep it from falling on your head.
We chose to go with a gorgeous blue color for the ceiling. It looks like a bright summer day, yet provides a dry and shady area to enjoy.

Exterior Lights/ Selections
Insert drooling emoji! These lights are stunners! We changed all our exterior lights to these and I have 0 regrets. They are substantial and sleek, but were also reasonably priced.

We used the same stone as the exterior of our house for our fireplace stone. We are so pleased with this space. Can’t wait to share final photos of this screened space and the fireplace below. It’s both magical and incredible outdoor additions to My Georgia House. Stay tuned!
